101 Ways to Cut Expenses
Great ideas abound for personal gifts that minimize the adverse imprint on the earth while making the maximum imprint on a person's heart. One site for ecological gift ideas is Sierra Club's blog, The Green Life. On that page are links to a number of tips including a holiday gift guide.
Another great site is Care2. It's GreenLiving page has links to all sorts of holiday and other gift giving ideas.
At Care2/GreenLiving is a list of personal gifts that don't cost money or are economical and thrifty and yet mean alot to the recipient: GreenLiving/25 Ideas

Just went to CatalogChoice and signed up to stop the receipt of all sorts of catalogs. I went thru my 2006 and 2007 of received-but-not-read/used catalogs and entered them in - a very easy process of clicking on the letter of the catalog name, selecting the right one and adding, if available, the customer number. In about 10-15 minutes of work [not work, really], I've 'unsubscribed' from unwanted paper catalogs. Hopefully, saving loads of trees. The stack of catalogs is now going out to the recycling bin and I've kept the catalogs I like or might order from, so I can go to the website and place an order when I want.
relevant to these postings or topics covered in them, going to the Publications or Links pages of this website is a good idea, since materials are often published there in greater detail.
On my way out of town to client meeting, checked GasBuddy.com and also Mapquest's gas price map [the search in Google produces quite a few options: 'gas prices']. Pricing in Des Moines as of now is about $2.52-$2.54 a gallon and up in Mason City where I am headed [and on the way] the price steadily rises to around $2.80. For a savings of around 20 cents a gallon, that's a good use of 5 minutes of my time.
I have been looking into which of the many programs on my computer and elsewhere to use to organize myself for some upcoming trials. One of these is Circus Ponies's Notebook, which I own but [candidly] don't use much at all.
As I am looking into working with Notebook [or some other program], I came across a blog comment on the Mac Law Students Blog which, with pictures and a clear description, explains how the author uses Notebook to keep case notes and such. It's a good commentary and the replies below provide other resources.
An excellent resource in general for a discussion of Mac outliners is the website for About This Particular Macintosh [ATPM]. There are more options than one has time to test out.
I saw this on a blog and found it interesting that Robert Bork, a leading conservative and proponent of tort reform, has sued Yale University for $1 million in compensatory damages plus punitive damages. Not that injuries shouldn't be fairly compensated, but as the ACS Blog points out, it's a rather hypocritical stance that he has taken in his lawsuit.
I was getting in the spirit of Earth Day recently and decided to see if there was anything out there [i.e., on the Web] which would give me ideas for uses for the ubiquitous plastic bag. Voila! There was. At About.com's section on Frugal Living, there are a host of money saving tips, and I found some four pages of possible uses for those little plastic bags, beyond taking out the litter. You'll find the article, page one, here.
